Saving items from landfill

18 Feb, 2019

Aware Programs have taken over the reuse shop at Wodonga Transfer Station.

A grand reopening was held on February 18.

Aware’s team includes local people with disabilities, some long-term job seekers and people who are retraining for new careers.

The shop gives new life to many items which are dropped off at the recycling centre.

Dylan Muggivan from Aware Programs said it was an exciting new venture for his team and builds upon its success with operating the Upcycle and Recycle Shop at the Albury Waste Management Centre.

“It provides an opportunity to service the local Wodonga community and continue to support our workers,” he said.

The shop will offer pre-loved treasures as well as Aware’s well-known and loved furniture made from recycled pallets.

Mr Muggivan hopes to later run a range of sustainability programs at the shop similar to ones they offer in Albury.

The not-for-profit group has a three-year contract to run the shop, which will operate from 10am to 3pm every day.

Closed on all public holidays and between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day each year.
