New pedestrian operated traffic lights now operational

6 Feb, 2019

Attention motorists: Two sets of pedestrian-operated traffic lights are now operating in Melrose Dve near Lawrence St (tennis courts) and near Brockley St (Birallee shops).

The lights replace these two school crossings.

Motorists need to be aware of the lights and ensure they are paying attention as the crossing supervisors will no longer be using flags or a stop sign.

Children will also have to get used to crossing at the pedestrian-operated lights.

The crossing supervisors are there to assist and educate the children on the crossing operation and the road rules.

We ask motorists be patient and pay more attention when approaching the crossings, especially during school crossing times - 8am to 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm.

There are heavy penalties for disobeying a traffic control signal.

Crossing supervisors will be operating the crossings for the remainder of the term or until it is deemed safe for children to cross unsupervised.
