Light Up Red for Tuberculosis (TB) is a global campaign to show solidarity for the over 1.5 million lives lost to TB annually and the millions of lives affected.
Every year, countries across the world come together on this day by lighting up monuments and buildings in red .
Not many Australians are aware that TB kills more people than HIV/AIDS and malaria combined. TB is an infectious disease that doesn’t respect borders. Every
year more than 1500 people in Australia suffer from this disease.
On World Tuberculosis Day, we recognise the importance of resilient systems for health to prevent, detect and respond effectively to epidemics – those we continue to battle, and new
outbreaks like COVID-19.
Amelia Christie, CEO of RESULTS Australia, the organisation spearheading the campaign explains, “The aim of Light Up Red for TB is to raise awareness about Tuberculosis among our
people, who may not know about this disease or who believe that TB is a thing of the past.”
RESULTS Australia started bringing councils in Australia into the campaign in 2019.
In 2019, Australia made a fantastic beginning. This year, 23 major cities and towns in Australia are lighting up 29 buildings and landmarks red to mark World TB Day on March 24.
