Come along and get messy

6 Feb, 2020

With eight reasons to get messy, Upstream's Messy Arty Party on March 7 is one not to miss.

From a colour run to clay play and bike art in the park, there's a range of art and music activities for all ages.

The Messy Arty Party is part of a host of activities during Upstream, a new cultural festival hosted by Wodonga Council and AlburyCity.

It will be held over the Victorian long weekend from March 6 to 9 and aims to celebrate our rich art and cultural fabric and place a spotlight on creativity.

Wodonga Council's manager cultural services Kim Strang is encouraging individuals and families to come along to the Messy Arty Party at Wodonga's Belvoir Park from 10am to 1pm to take part in any of the eight activities.

"This will be a fun family-friendly event that will create many fond and lasting memories," she said.

"It's all about getting messy and having a fun time, so a little word of advice - don't dress to impress, dress to make a mess."

"While getting messy, be entertained by The Kissin' Cousins playing bluegrass and old-time favourites like Tennessee Waltz and Turkey in the Straw."

Take a look at the eight events on offer below.

Clay play - Artists of all ages will be encouraged to play in clay and water in a sensory-based experience. Presented by The Art Spot.

Percussion workshops - Make an instrument using a variety of materials and make a noise by playing a variety of instruments. Presented by the Murray Conservatorium.

Colour run - Become a colourful chalk artwork while meeting the various checkpoint challenges like skipping or walking backwards.

Water works - BYO swimmers to venture through the mobile water structure. Suitable for preschool and primary-aged children. Don’t forget to slip, slop, slap

Messy Play with Maggie Moo - Join Farmer Neen and the Maggie Moo crew to explore a range of fun activities such as water play, painting, bubbles, shaving cream art and more.

Bike art in the park - Ride to Belvoir Park and decorate your bike in time for Ride to School Day after enjoying the bike paths in and around our two cities.

Dance art - Add your mark to a giant canvas using just feet, legs, hands, or your whole body in an immersive, sensory installation. Presented by PROJECTion Dance.

Waterbomb volleyball - Grab a teammate and a towel and challenge someone to a match of keeping your water balloon in play. If it hits the ground, then splash!
