Wodonga’s family and friends come together

13 Dec, 2019

A night filled with carols and candlelight, Wodonga’s biggest celebration of all things Christmas is on again. Organised by Wodonga Brass, the 44th Wodonga Carols by Candlelight will be again held at Willow Park Wodonga on Sunday 15 December.

“The stage will again be located in its usual position facing the embankment and all ovals will be available for parking this year” Carols organiser Jacob Mildren said.

“Weather in previous years has been our biggest challenge, but this year is shaping up to be an incredible night” Mr Mildren said.

“The main Carols event will commence at 7:30pm, with a very special pre-carols entertainment program planned from 6:00pm”.

2019 Pre-carols will feature a variety of music provided by our local schools.

Opening act Just Brass is a brass ensemble consisting of Grade 3 to 5 students at Wodonga West Primary School.

“These students began learning to play music in Term 2 under a national program organised by the Salvation Army” Mr Mildren said.

“These students have since flourished in their school studies and are more engaged in their education and community as a result of the pioneering program”.

Following Just Brass senior students of Victory Lutheran College, St Augustine’s and St Monica’s Primary Schools will perform. At 7:00pm Albury Wodonga Pipes and Drum’s will herald the approach of the main program.

The Wodonga Christmas tradition will feature 23 singers leading a program of 25 Christmas carols and songs, supported by Wodonga Brass and the newly formed Wodonga Carols Choir.

“Several singers will be performing at Wodonga Carols for the first time this year. Once again, an Auslan interpreter will sign the event including the hearing impaired in our community”.

“Santa and PRIME Possum will also make special guest appearances!”.

More food vans than ever before, free face painting and Christmas activities will be available from 6:00pm, with plenty of space to throw down the picnic rug with the family”.

“Candles will be for sale with proceeds going to the Albury Wodonga Health Palliative Care Centre”.

Vision Australia have this year given us permission to use the special candle holders and protectors normally only available at Melbourne’s Carols by Candlelight.

The main event, starting at 7:30pm will be broadcast live on 1494 2AY and via their website.

The program will be hosted by 1494 2AY’s Kevin Poulter.

The event is presented by Wodonga Brass, and would not be possible without significant support from the Wodonga Council, Riverside Estate, Wodonga Real Estate, Hadar Homes, Bing Lee, Stewart, Tracy & Mylon and many other sponsors.
