Update on Belvoir dog park improvements

10 Aug, 2021

Changes have been made to proposed plans to improve Belvoir dog park following valuable feedback from the community.

The park will be expanded and a separate section added for quiet or timid dogs.

A tender will be advertised later this month and it is expected that work to improve the park can begin in October.

Twenty-three submission were received from members of the community and there was strong support for improvements to the park, which was the first fenced dog park in the Albury-Wodonga area and has been extremely popular for more than 10 years.

What we heard

  • There was strong support for an extension that includes a second separate area for quieter or timid dogs
  • There was strong support for shade and more seating
  • There are concerns around the ground surface
  • There were requests for lighting so people who work can use the park later in the day

What we changed as a result

  • The gate for the new section of the park has been relocated closer to the existing path
  • A larger concrete pad will be installed at the entry to the new section
  • There will only be one water bubbler/dog bowl installed in the new section
  • Additional seating will be installed in the existing park area

Because of the budget constraints, some of the things people asked for weren’t possible. That feedback has been noted and can potentially be considered in the future.

Works will be carried out in a staged approach and the new separate section will be completed first. This means the new section can be used while works are carried out on the existing section.

Once the new area is completed and opened, the existing section will be closed to allow maintenance works and for the space to have some much-needed time to rejuvenate.
