[Author talk] Michael Winkler and Wayne Marshall

9 Jun, 2026

Readers, get ready! Two of Australia’s most exciting literary voices are rolling into town and they’re bringing big ideas, bold storytelling and a touch of the unexpected with them.

Join Michael Winkler and Wayne Marshall in conversation at Hyphen – Wodonga Library Gallery, as they discuss their newest novels, Griefdogg and Henry Goes Bush

Winkler’s Griefdogg is a tender, offbeat novel set along the Murray River in Mildura. It follows a middle-aged water scientist who makes the unusual decision to give up the pressures of modern life and live as a family pet. (Yes, really.) Warm, curious and deeply human, Michael’s work continues to captivate readers following his previous novel Grimmish, which was shortlisted for the Miles Franklin Award.

Meanwhile, Marshall’s debut novel Henry Goes Bush is a wildly imaginative blend of speculative fiction and Australian literary history, which has been described as “Peter Carey meets David Mitchell in the outback.” It’s inventive, thought-provoking and a bit surreal. Wayne is also an award-shortlisted writer and co-founder of the Peter Carey Short Story Award.

Come prepared for plenty of laughs, thoughtful conversation and an opportunity to ask questions.

Copies of Michael and Wayne’s books will be available for sale courtesy of Booktique Albury, and the Hyphen bar will be open with drinks available for purchase.

Don’t miss this remarkable conversation – secure your spot today.
