Wodonga Council received money under the Australian Government's Black Spot funding program to improve Thomas Mitchell Drive in 2015.

The work, that began in November, 2015 will be done in three stages until April, 2016.

Stage one, that consisted of the road between Chapple St and Jack in the Box Creek, was completed before Christmas in 2015.

Stage two of the Thomas Mitchell Drive reconstruction started on Monday, January 11. This stage includes work on the Jack in the Box creek crossing.

Stage three started on Monday, March 14. This stage includes work from the creek to Wigg St.


The Thomas Mitchell Drive reconstruction was officially finished on Wednesday, May 11.

Works included: 

  • New left and right hand turn lanes;
  • Four new pedestrian crossings;
  • Upgrade to Jack In The Box Creek culvert to stop flooding issues;
  • Removal of the railway line;
  • 34 new street lights;
  • Four new bus stops;
  • Additional carparking;
  • Landscaping; and,
  • Drainage improvements.
