Bringing people together

9 May, 2022

The Baranduda and Felltimber community centres are joining this week’s national celebrations of Neighbourhood House Week.

With the theme, “Building resilience by bringing people together’, the week acknowledges the amazing contribution that more than 1,000 neighbourhood houses make to communities across Australia.

This year’s event is especially important in a COVID-recovery environment, with many people still feeling the effects of lockdowns and illness.

Wodonga’s community centres are playing a part in rebuilding the social connections that many people lost during the pandemic, with a range of activities and events continuing to support families, the vulnerable and the wider community.

Council’s Community Centres Coordinator, Amanda Crisp, said the week was a great way of focusing on the ways in which neighbourhood houses improve people’s lives as the journey out of COVID-19 continues.

“It’s about making a contribution and I think community centres are a thread within our community that keep people together and that really emphasizes the need for human connections and resilience,” she said.

Neighbourhood House Week continues until Sunday.
