Schorobura Park was named and gazetted in 2016. Schorobura Park is located on Rooney Ave, Killara and is named after Teofil and Vera Schorobura.

It was recently discovered the present location of Schorobura Park is in a cultural heritage sensitivity area as to show the council’s respect to local Aboriginal communities and to protect Aboriginal tangible and intangible heritage, it is proposed to relocate the park.

The Wodonga Place Names Advisory Committee recommended Schorobura Park to be relocated to a reserve on Perkins St, Killara.

The family has been consulted and given consent to the relocation.

About the family

Teofil and Vera Schorobura arrived in Australia in 1949 and lived in the Bonegilla migrant camp for two years. They then built a house in Phillips St,Wodonga, and lived there for the rest of their lives. Teofil worked at the 4 Base workshop in Bandiana for 28 years until he retired. Vera worked as a cook at the Rose Marie Cafe in Wodonga and then later for Uncle Ben’s until she retired. They had three children who all stayed and work locally.

Wodonga Council is seeking public comment on the proposal of relocating Schorobura Park from Rooney Ave, Killara, to the reserve on Perkins St, Killara, as recommended by the Place Names Advisory Committee.

December 12, 2020

At its December, 2020, meeting, the council passed a motion that the Schorobura Park name be relocated from the reserve on Rooney Ave, Killara, to the reserve on Perkins St, Killara.
