At the May 16 meeting of the council, councillors passed motions to endorse these documents for public exhibition.

The Wodonga Council Budget 2016-2017 was endorced at the July, 2016 council meeting.

Key facts about the 2016-2017 draft budget

  • Rate rise of 2.5 per cent
  • $5.2 million in renewals including roads, car parks and pathways
  • Budget fully funds renewal program
  • Borrowings have been deferred for the past four years and stand at $25.5 million at the end of 2015-2016
  • Provision made for $2.5 million in borrowings in the 2016-2017 year
  • $1.3 million in savings achieved from 2014-2015 through efficiencies, service reviews and lower costs

  • Baranduda Fields – start of stage 1 $3.1 million
  • LED street light changeover $1.2 million
  • Solar lighting $40,000
  • Chapple St footpath $155,000
  • Tree planting program $130,000
  • Public toilets $150,000
  • Seating and drinking fountains for pathways $40,000
  • Recreation facilities improvements $195,000
  • Playgrounds $100,000
  • Hilltops including trails, barbecues and shelters $150,000
  • Klings Hill mountain bike tracks $118,000

Community

  • $330,000 for community projects including grants, events and programs
  • Support for Wodonga Chamber of Commerce, Wodonga Historical Society, Wodonga Brass, Senior Citizens
  • $1.8 million spent on managing recreation in the city including $200,000 on works and renewals
  • Budget includes a $4.2 million spend – with council contribution, state and federal funding and fees – preschools, children’s centres, early learning programs and maternal and child health services
