What job opportunities exist?

The range of job opportunities are vast.  While we don’t do everything, we do a lot.  For most people there is a job they can consider.

Community arts, cultural and tourism

We create facilities and services for the community to enjoy the arts, history and culture, including our local Aboriginal culture (eg, at Burraja and elsewhere throughout the municipality), through establishing and maintaining facilities such as the performing arts centre (The Cube), the library gallery (Hyphen), and the historical settlement museum (Bonegilla Migrant Experience), as well as a lively program of events.

Community capacity building

We design and deliver health and wellbeing programs targeting key cohorts in the community, including youth, families, migrants, people with a disability etc.

Economic futures

We create new opportunities through the upgrade of the central business area and creation of Logic, a logistical hub on the Hume Freeway midway between Melbourne and Sydney.

Education

We educate children in our preschools either in a support or teaching role.

Nursing

We measure and advise on the health and wellbeing of new born babies and young children in our maternal child health centres, and visit schools and community facilities to deliver lifesaving vaccinations to school children and adults.

Planning

We establish and administer the design parameters for our city to support thriving communities and community spaces that meet current need and anticipate the future needs of our community.

Engineering and project management

We design and build or contract/project manage the construction of new buildings and public spaces for the community to enjoy.

Building

We support the safe construction of buildings for the benefit of the current and future users of those facilities.

Road, gardens and environmental land management

We create and maintain transport networks (walk, ride, drive), public open spaces including streetscapes that are functional and meet community need, and preserve our unique environmental heritage on the Wodonga Hills and sensitive WREN areas.

Sporting and recreation spaces and facilities

We work with community and clubs/groups to identify the need for and deliver sporting, recreation and play facilities to support community physical and psychological wellbeing and fitness.

Sustainability and resource recovery

We design and administer systems and facilities to support a sustainable community and environment, recycling of resources and to reduce and effectively manage waste.

Community, environment and food safety

We administer licencing to make our food and environment safe, as well as supporting programs in response to major events impacting our community such as emergency response in the event of fires or floods, and pandemic response actions.

Working with animals

We are responsible for animal management and civic compliance activities.
