Starting a new health business
All health and beauty premises operating in Wodonga must be registered with council’s Environmental Health team.
All health and beauty premises are required to comply with the requirements of the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 (Vic) and the Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2019 (Vic). The Environmental Health team have developed a Health and Beauty Premises Guide which can be downloaded from the link below. This outlines all the requirements for health and beauty premises. The Victorian Department of Health has also created the Guidelines for infection prevention and control in the hair, beauty, tattooing and skin penetration industries which may be useful for procedure specific advice: Hair, beauty, tattooing and skin penetration industries.
It is recommended that you obtain advice on the required set up and layout early in the planning, construction or fit out stage when planning your new health or beauty business. The registration fee includes an assessment of plans by an Environmental Health Officer (EHO) who will assess your plans against the requirements of the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 (Vic) and the Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2019 (Vic). The EHO will provide written advice on the suitability of your layout and fit out of your premises before any work commences.
