Snag a book bundle

22 Jul, 2020

Missing your library fix? Or looking for something new to read?

Wodonga Library is packaging up book bundles for members to borrow and read.

Library Services Co-ordinator Meaghan Brown said members were missing being able to browse the collection and the joy of doscovering a book by chance.

"It might still be a little while before we can freely wander the shelves again… so Book Bundles are a new way we can get our items out to our members to be read and enjoyed," she said.

"We’ve been doing special themes for these ‘library item lucky dips’ and then carefully selecting items from across our collection.

"Items could include non-fiction, magazines, novels and maybe even DVDs - depending on each theme!

"We also have some "grab and go" packs for younger readers that include a new stack of picture books, ready to be borrowed."

What themes have the library put together?

We’ve had The Armchair Traveller for anyone dreaming of all the wonderful places we can’t currently go. Each pack was themed around one destination- combining the art, culture and food of that location into a mystery trip of items! The ‘Write Stuff’ was full of creative inspiration for anyone wanting to write. We also had the ‘at the movies’ bundle with included actor biographies, movie guide books and a selection of films on DVD.

What has been your favourite bundles to make so far?

The Armchair Traveller- people really enjoyed the packs themed around one country (or even city). It was fun to select as well as we could include items from across the library’s shelves- travel documentary DVDs, novels set in that destination, cookbooks featuring famous cuisine and even books from our art collection featuring famous landscapes from that country.

How many bundles have you made up so far?

We’ve done 20-plus themed bundles but also many general packs of picture books for younger readers.

How many books per bundle?

It depends on how many we can squash into a bag but usually between 10 and 20.

How people can request a bundle?

Members can claim a book bundle by emailing the library or sending the library a direct FB message including their name and library card number. If they can also let us know their choice of theme, and any special requests so we can carefully select items on their behalf. The themed packs have been created with grown-up readers in mind, but we are also happy to create "family friendly" bundles by request; just let us know the ages of the children when ordering.
