Lights, camera ... thrills

19 Apr, 2021

Young Border residents can expect to see ‘crazy action’ when the 91-Storey Treehouse comes to The Cube Wodonga on April 24.

Sydney-based CDP Theatre Producers are pleased to be on tour with the successful show and Wodonga Council chatted with the playwright, Richard Tulloch (pictured above).

Tulloch spoke about the challenge of bringing a popular children’s book to life on the stage after successfully adapting all five Treehouse productions (13/26/52/78/91-Storey Treehouse) presented by CDP.

“They are impossible, it’s just crazy action all the time - think take a ride in a submarine sandwich take a ride in a submarine sandwich taking a ride in a submarine sandwich,” he said.

“They should never be done but you can do it anyway and we always manage to pull it off.”

The books written by Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton are popular with children all over the world.

The story features Andy and Terry’s treehouse which has reached an amazing 91 storeys.

It’s now more fantastically dangerous than ever, with a desert island, a whirlpool, and a giant spider.

But Andy, Terry and Jill have no idea they’re about to face their biggest challenge yet. Mr Big Nose has sent his grandchildren to the treehouse, and they don’t want to just sit quietly. Can Andy, Terry and Jill master this extreme babysitting challenge?

What does mysterious fortune teller Madam Know-It-All really want? And will the Big Red Button really destroy the world? A fantastical trip through this wild, weird and wonderful world for children 6 to 12 and their adults.

Tulloch loves nothing more than sitting amongst the audience and watching their reaction.

“A lot of the time there’s someone in the audience who is ahead of the cast and they play along and it’s exciting to see them interjecting,” he said.

Tulloch encouraged parents to bring their children along for the thrills and spills.
