Booked out Sail Country 2019 regatta bringing sailors to Lake Hume

1 Nov, 2019

Albury Wodonga Yacht Club (AWYC) is gearing up for a huge weekend of racing with Sail Country starting this Saturday 2 November.

The popular event is now among the top ten regattas by entry numbers in Australia, attracting sailors, coaches and support crews from Melbourne, Sydney, regional NSW and Victoria and the local community.

Sail Country 2019 is fully booked with 200 boats registered to compete in racing on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 November. Details of 2019 entrants and their home sailing clubs are available here.

The regatta attracts a very large youth component, starting with children from the age of eight years sailing in the International Optimist class, through to adults and members of the Laser Masters Association. This year, Sail Country will incorporate the 2019 Victorian Laser Inland Champions.

Many sailors will remain after Sail Country to join coaching and training programs on Lake Hume on Monday 4 and Tuesday 5 November.

The huge event is run 100 per cent by volunteers from AWYC, Naval Cadets and Volunteer Coastguard groups, with generous sponsorship from businesses, and support from Albury City and the City of Wodonga. The Commercial Club and Spitwater Australia are returning as Gold Sponsors for Sail Country 2019.

Locals can enjoy the spectacle of up to 200 boats starting from vantage points on Jacksons and Kookaburra Points on the Victorian side of Lake Hume near Bonegilla.
