Great Murray River Postie Bike Alpine Adventure

Great Murray River Postie Bike Alpine Adventure

February is the perfect timing to dust off the Honda CT110 for the Great Murray River Postie Bike Alpine Adventure.

Fifty riders will take their “110cc’s of fury” on a three-day ride and raise funds for charity.

Horizon Committee Inc has been involved in fundraising for cancer support services since 2004 and has raised nearly $2,000,000 through the Murray Charity Meander, Echuca Moama’s Biggest Ever Blokes lunch, Little Blue Towels project and Great Murray River Postie Bike Alpine Adventure.

The major beneficiaries have been breast cancer and prostate cancer services, including the funding of 58 Oncology nursing scholarships nationally to better equip nurses to assist men with prostate cancer.

This included eight recipients in the Albury Wodonga area to assist local prostate cancer support services.

The first three-day ride, centred on Echuca – Moama, provided funds to assist Bendigo Health Foundations purchase of prostate cancer biopsy equipment.

The 2019 event will assist Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre Trust Fund and the purchase of equipment.

The Great Murray River Postie Bike Alpine Adventure is not just about raising funds but provides an opportunity to traverse the alpine area, including Mt Hotham, Falls Creek and Mt Buffalo, and follow tributaries down to the majestic Murray River.

There’s also ample time for the participants to take in the scenery, sample award-winning local hospitality plus historic and unique venues.

The event starts Friday, February 22 with a ride to Myrtleford for breakfast before heading to Albury via Yackandandah, Tallangatta and Bellbridge.

The afternoon takes in Mt Beauty and Tawonga Gap. Saturdays ride is a long loop to Falls Creek, Omeo and Mt Hotham.

The last leg on Sunday is to the top of Mt Buffalo and back to Mystic Paragliding launch site, before lunch at Wandilagong.

The primary reason for the event is to raise funds to support prostate cancer services.

It’s a condition of entry that all participants organise at least $1000 in donations or sponsorship, as this will be the main source of fundraising, and all donations are tax deductable.

Further information and entry forms are available from event co-ordinator Dick Phillips, 0458 802 211 or dp.echuca@bigpond.com
