The Wodonga community has been asked to help design an exciting new place for children to play. A major extension of the Belvoir Park playground will deliver new levels of fun to children aged between six and 14, with new play facilities to combine with enhanced natural play areas. Mayor Kev Poulton said the improvements would make the popular park an even better place to meet and play – and local families are invited to have their say about what elements should be added. “Additions might include a rock-climbing wall, a flying fox, or an obstacle course but kids and parents might have ideas of their own, which is why we want the community to work with us so we can provide the best facilities possible,” he said. “The improvements will build on the existing facilities for older kids, complementing the junior playground on site, while one of the really exciting options is to harness the beauty of the area to create enhanced natural play spaces so kids can have healthy, educational fun outdoors. “However, we’re really keen to hear from users of the playground – especially parents, family members, and children – so please do tell us how you’d like to see your playground improved and extended.” Belvoir Park playground is Wodonga’s only regional playground and currently features a junior playground, intermediate to senior play area, elevated platforms, decks, slides, nets, climbing wall and a liberty swing.
“People can have their say online, or by attending one of our drop-in sessions. Those who’d like to make a hard-copy submission can call into our Hovell St offices or call us on (02) 6022 9300,” Cr Poulton said. “This is a great opportunity to make a real difference for local families so please do have your say and help to create a fantastic play space for our young people.” Submissions are open until Monday March 7. The face-to-face drop-in sessions will be held at the playground from 9am to 12pm on Saturday February 19, and from 3pm to 6pm on Wednesday February 23.
