Celebration to reconnect artists, audiences

A celebration of creativity in Wodonga is set to drive the recovery of the local arts sector for performers, artists and audiences.

Wodonga Council is hosting CoCreate – a night of family fun that will reconnect local audiences with some of the region’s most entertaining and inspiring performers - on the evening of Saturday March 5.

Featuring local and visiting artists, CoCreate will help to reignite the local arts sector with a burst of colour and creativity to be staged in and around The Cube Wodonga and Hyphen – Wodonga Library Gallery.

The program is available here.

The first major event for Wodonga Council since March last year, CoCreate will run from 5pm to 9pm and is free of charge.

Wodonga Mayor Kev Poulton said CoCreate would be an important boost for the creative community and the hundreds of fans expected to attend.

“The arts sector was among the hardest-hit by Covid-19 but now we’re helping to build a path to recovery through this exciting, family-friendly celebration which will light up our cultural precinct through music, dance, theatre and art, as well as some of the region’s finest food and beverage offerings,” he said.

“CoCreate will showcase some terrific talent, including the Woodlock band from Yarrawonga, Beechworth singer Asha Bright, the Albury Wodonga Victory Women’s Choir, the Rhajastani Dance Group and many more.

“It’s a great opportunity for families to enjoy fantastic entertainment and thought-provoking performances in a Covid-safe environment.”

Albury performer Tash Quinn will conduct two book readings for children, the Nickels Duo Comedy Circus Show will be a family favourite, Murray Conservatorium musicians will present four pop-up performances showcasing individual talents, and Albury artist Kade Sarte will create a special mural for the occasion.

Families are welcome to bring a picnic but alcohol must be purchased on-site.

CoCreate has received significant funding under the Federal Government’s Black Summer Bushfire Recovery grants program, reflecting the costly financial and personal impacts of the fires on the region.

“The funding support has enabled us to deliver CoCreate, providing an extra arm of recovery as our community works to bounce back from the double-disaster of fires and Covid, so we’re very grateful for the assistance,” Cr Poulton said.

“CoCreate will be a great night out for families who’ve been starved of entertainment but just as importantly, it will help to recharge the creative arts community and strengthen our recovering visitor economy - so put it in your diary for a great night out on Saturday March 5.”
