Experiencing Wodonga from the seat of her car was the inspiration for a series of digital artworks by Pinky Wittingslow.
The artworks are on display in The Cube Lightboxes as part of the council’s Open Galleries ephemeral art program that gives local artists a chance to showcase their work to the public.
The second pandemic lockdown sparked the creations.
“This is the result of dealing with that trauma, just realising we were back in lockdown but trying to find the silver lining like all the places you can experience from your car or during your one hour of outside activity,” Pinky said.
“You can drive around town and these are the things you can see.
“We would drive past the water tower and it makes you feel good.
“We would also go for an hour walk at Sumsion Gardens or go up Huon Hill.”
Pinky is no stranger to Wodonga’s cultural precinct, taking part in Hyphen – Wodonga Library Gallery’s artist-in-residence program last February.
In a nod to the traditional owners of our land, Pinky chose to include local native wildlife in her works.
“While they are our local native creatures, they are also representing the passage of time and the fact that they have been witness to the area for thousands of years,” she said.
“The Bogong moths, in particular, fly over that water tower.”
Pinky, who aptly says pink is her favourite colour, loves to see Wodonga’s water tower come to life with the beautiful hue.
“I love the way the pink comes across in the artwork, it’s really vibrant when those lights light up,” she said.

Pinky revealed she was nervous seeing her work on display, especially on a much-larger scale.
“It’s awesome but I also felt a bit nervous,” she said.
“They are a bit of therapy and it’s funny to see your therapy up on a wall for everyone to see, but at the same time I love Wodonga and I love our area so I was excited to have them up there.”
Pinky is now working on illustrations for Gardenesque, AlburyCity’s feature flower and garden festival on January 28 and 29.
