Are you prepared for the upcoming fire season?

16 Nov, 2023

Wodonga Council will begin inspecting properties for fire hazards from Monday, November 27, when the fire danger period officially begins.

Owners or occupiers of properties that are overgrown or contain derelict cars or other hazards that present a fire risk are required to clean up as soon as possible.

Fire risk will be high this summer due to prolific growth and expected dry conditions.

Following the identification of properties as a potential risk, Fire Prevention Notices will be issued where necessary, requiring hazards to be removed within 14 days of the notice.

Non-compliance with directions will result in work being carried out by the council at the expense of the owners.

The penalty for non-compliance is now a $1923 infringement notice.

The council urges residents to prepare now for the oncoming fire season for a safe summer.

If you require any further information, contact the Wodonga Council Municipal Fire Prevention Officer on (02) 6022 9300.
