Don't burn their homes to heat yours

6 May, 2020

The best place to get firewood is to buy it from a retailer.

Wodonga Council is reminding people the collection of firewood from council roadsides and reserves is not permitted.

The council does not allow the collection of fallen timber and there are no designated areas for firewood collection in Wodonga.

Fallen trees and logs are an important building block for the environment.

The dead wood provides homes and cover for wildlife in an exposed landscape and is great habitat for insects, as well as playing an important part in nutrient cycling which is critical for a healthy ecosystem. Forest Fire Management Victoria has issued updated information on the collection of firewood in state forests.

The collection of firewood from state forests can continue where social distancing measures are maintained.
