Girls Write Up to inspire young storytellers

11 Oct, 2019

Tickets are now on sale for this year's Girls Write Up, which returns to Wodonga for its third year on October 17.

The day-long festival for teens aged 12 to 18 aims to teach empowerment through writing and sharing stories.

Girls Write Up’s unique, innovative program of talks, interactive panels and practical workshops explores the relationships between language, gender and power.

It elevates voices and stories that have historically been devalued or marginalised, and gives all participants the opportunity to discover their own creative voice, equipping them with the skills and the confidence to use it.

Over the course of the day, authors, journalists, artists, poets and other creative thinkers and emerging leaders share how they use writing to define their identities and shape the world around them.

Girls Write Up is for anyone who has felt limited by their gender and wants to understand how language can be used to liberate and empower.

Participants will first hear from blogger, writer, speaker and appearance activist Carly Findlay.

The opening keynote examines the stories we’re told and the stories we tell. How do you find the confidence and perspective to trust your own voice amid the chaos of everyone else’s?

There will be a series of workshops to choose from including Slam Poetry with Lorin Elizabeth.

Whatever your previous level of writing experience and engagement, Girls Write Up is for you.

On the day, just bring yourself and your ideas.

All attendees will be sent an information pack ahead of the event, which will include further information about what to expect.

Tickets cost $12. Book here.
