This Way North, an indie rock duo constantly on tour and currently with no fixed home address (they like it that way), will fit The Cube Wodonga into their busy schedule on Friday, June 7.
Come along from 7pm for some finger food, happy hour drinks and stay to hear some great tunes from the two-piece band who are the main act for the last of the 2019 Winter Sessions.
This Way North (Cat Leahy and Leisha Jungalwalla) first met in the north - Canada, in fact - at the renowned British Columbia ArtsWells Festival about two and a half years ago.
While hanging at the festival, they discovered their permanent homes were both north - the north-side of Melbourne.
The duo were half a world away in Canada, but only 500m apart in their everyday lives.
Once back in Melbourne, they treated their post-tour blues by doing what all self-respecting musicians do: playing music.
The outcome was good, really good and so This Way North was born.
Leahy (drummer/vocalist) and Jungalwalla (guitarist/vocalist) describe their music as an expansive sound that translates effortlessly from the studio to the stage, wherever that might be.
"We enjoy life on the road, just living out of our van and touring full-time," she said.
"We can't wait to come back to Albury-Wodonga, we were there for the By The Banks Music Festival late last year."
The duo have been busy over the past two years, releasing two EPs and several singles.
Their latest single ‘Night Terrors’ and accompanying film clip, by Vanessa Cox, was released on May 31.
Produced by Pony Face’s Shane O’Mara and Simon Bailey, the track expertly melds Jungalwalla’s signature, punchy slide guitar and Leahy’s deep, raw drumming, to sonically capture the experience of night terrors.
Jungalwalla wrote the song late last year in an attempt to explore her nightly struggle with the sleeping disorder.
She drew from a difficult period of her life, and the intersection between dreams and reality.
The film clip was shot in Brisbane, in an old 1920’s artisan building overlooking the banks of the Brisbane River.
