Business Competition is now closed.

 All local businesses are invited to take part in the 2020 Upstream - Festival of Art + Culture Business Competition. Invoke your inner creativity and use your products to produce a sculpture to display in your business or shopfront window or take an image and submit it for judging.

The sculpture can be made from any material or product from your business. Entries will be judged based on the following criteria.

  • Overall impression and visual impact 
  • Creativity and innovation 
  • The artistic installation, dish, cocktail or quirky display communicates the theme* and clever use of the businesses products

*The name Upstream places the focus on the natural landmark of the Murray River and the meeting point of the two cities.

Submissions close on Friday, February 21, 2020.

Have your sculpture in place in your business or shopfront in the lead-up to and for the duration of the festival from Monday, February 17, 2020 to Monday, March 9, 2020.

Judging will be carried out by a panel consisting of a representative from AlburyCity, Wodonga Council, Albury Northside Chamber of Commerce, Business Wodonga and Big Agency.

Judging will be on Friday, March 6, 2020 and winners will be announced and presented their award on Sunday, March 8, 2020 during Sunday of Curious Things. 

The judging panel’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.


The winner will receive a Marketing Strategy Session and Media Content provided by Big Agency to the value of $5000 inc GST.

People’s Choice

A People’s Choice will also take place.

Participating businesses can direct message through Facebook with their business name and a photo of their display.

Photos will be featured in the Upstream Business Competition Album.

People can vote for their favourite display by liking the photo in the album.

The business with the most votes at 5pm on Monday, March 9, 2020 will win the People’s Choice award.

Winner will be announced on the Upstream Facebook page.

The winner will receive a tickets package, comprising four tickets from each of the following venues - Albury Entertainment Centre, HotHouse Theatre and The Cube Wodonga for shows of their choice, valued at approximately $600. Note: For 2020 performance season shows only. 

Terms and Conditions

The joint promoters are Wodonga City Council, 104 Hovell St, Wodonga and AlburyCity Council, 553 Kiewa St, Albury

  • Employees and Contractors of The Promoter are not eligible to enter.
  • Only businesses located within Albury and Wodonga local government areas are permitted to enter.
  • Business entrants must complete the online entry form at upstream.org.au
  • Entries close at COB on Friday, February 21, 2020.
  • By entering this competition, businesses are agreeing to have their windows photographed. These photographs may be featured on Upstream - Festival of Art + Culture social media channels.
  • The Promoter reserves the right at any time to disqualify any business who the councils reasonably believe have breached any of the terms and conditions or engaged in unlawful or improper conduct aimed at jeopardising the fair and proper conduct of the competition.
