Read and win prizes this summer

3 Dec, 2019

Calling all bookworms or those just looking to escape in the world of books this summer - Wodonga Library has a challenge for you.

The annual Summer Reading Club is here so make sure to register at Wodonga Library to receive a starter pack where you can record each book you read on your reading log.

Return your log back to the library to go in the draw for some great prizes.

Wodonga Library team leader Michelle Fracaro said stories are everywhere waiting to be discovered during this year’s Summer Reading Club.

"We invite children to explore the imaginary while promoting the joy of stories as they read their way through the summer," she said.

"Come visit us at the library for your child's starter pack and see how many books you can read between December 2 and January 23."

Wodonga Library has organised a host of events during the challenge, with the first one being a stop motion workshop on Tuesday, January 7 at 10.30am and 1pm.

Learn how to make your own stop motion film where participants will create their own story using technology and resources available at the library.

Join us on Thursday, January 9 from 10am to 11am for a special storytelling workshop where you can discover the diverse sounds and dance in a different culture.

You can act, sing and dance your way to create your own story on Monday, January 13 through a fun, interactive drama workshop.

The drama workshop from 11am will take inspiration from this year's Summer Reading Club theme - A Roomful of Stories - to write and perform an original creation.

Then there's a chance to create your own comic on Tuesday, January 14 at 10.30am and 1pm. Let your imagination run wild as you create and publish your own comic strip.

On Monday, January 20, join Tammy Campbell as she brings her culture to life through a special storytime - Dreamtime stories art workshop - at Burraja Cultural Centre from 9.30am to 10.30am.

Tammy is a proud Wiradjuri woman born in Wagga. She takes pride in her culture and is a self-taught artists who uses various mediums, mostly acrylic on canvas.

The series of events will culminate with the Wrap Party on Thursday, January 23 from 4pm to 6pm.

Join us as we wrap up a fun summer of reading challenges and cultural stories with a party like no other.

The party will include an afternoon of music, games, ice cream and prize giveaways.
