Behind Crimson Eyes are coming to Wodonga.

Posted: 06/08/2009

WODONGA Council's next FReeZA event titled Meltdown 2009 is going to be red hot with a line-up including Behind Crimson Eyes, Calling All Cars, The Galvatrons, Red Ink and local act Master Tang.

Meltdown 2009 is a fully-supervised, all ages event that is drug, smoke and alcohol free.

It will be held at the Wodonga Civic Centre on Friday, August 28 from 7.15pm to 11.30pm. Doors open at 7pm.

The last time The Galvatrons played in Wodonga was at Carnivale WILD in March last year. They rocked the Wild Things Zone with their shredding synth-pop and rock tunes.

The band will be armed with tracks from their debut album Laser Graffiti, which hit the shelves last month. The album took two months to record at Sydney's Big Jesus Burger Studios with Scott Horscroft (The Presets, Sleepy Jackson and Silverchair) and another month to mix to bring this synth-rock beast to life.

From the unrequited love anthem and first single ‘Cassandra' and the bouncing Devo-style keyboards and beat of toe-tapping ‘Robots Are Cool', to the rousing ‘The Last Starfighter', and the organic keyboard melodies of the more ethereal ‘Light Speed', Laser Graffiti is a varied set.

The Van Halen-esque rocker ‘When We Were Kids' has also been re-envisioned after catapulting the band onto the radio airwaves with their debut EP of the same name in May last year.

Frontman Johnny Galvatron said there is a lot on the new record.

“I think a lot of people expect us to have 12 songs that sound like ‘When We Were Kids',” Johnny says. “I think the record will surprise a lot of people.”

“Our catchphrase has been to do the soundtrack of the coolest sci-fi never made.

“This whole band is inspired by that sound, the 80s soundtrack as opposed to 80s music. We're more inspired by film than radio or records.”

Manager community planning and youth services Jaime Carroll said the calibre of acts on the bill is terrific for the young people of Wodonga.

“There really is something for everyone with five professional acts from varying genres,” she said.

Tickets to Meltdown 2009 cost $20 and are available from the Wodonga Sports and Leisure Centre, Billy Hyde Music, All Music and Custom Music in Albury, The Sanction BMX Albury and at the door (if not sold out).
