New Township Protection Plans for Wodonga

Posted: 06/12/2011

NEW bushfire Township Protection Plans were delivered to Wodonga residents during December last year as part of a state-wide mailout and should be used as a straightforward ‘go to' resource for local risk maps and bushfire safety information.

If you did not receive one of the plans, you can collect a copy from Wodonga Council's customer service desk in Hovell St and the Wodonga Visitor Information Centre at Gateway Village, Lincoln Causeway.

CFA Hume regional manager Alan Davies said that that the plans were developed by the CFA in consultation with local communities, shire councils, brigades and various government agencies for people who are in areas most at risk of bushfire or grassfire this summer.

Township Protection Plans will help locals and visitors identify important community assets, primary roads to exit the area, where to go, survival options and important emergency contact information," he said.

“I urge every Victorian who receives one of these plans to keep it, consider the information carefully, and link it with your own household Bushfire Survival Plan

“It is essential that members of the community are equipped to identify and prepare for bushfire risk.

“Bushfire and grassfire are an ever present danger in these townships of and all classified as having a bushfire risk of ‘very high' or ‘extreme'. Managing the risk is everyone's responsibility and now is the time to start preparing.

“If you haven't got around to preparing your bushfire survival plan or are looking to hone down your existing plan then this is a great starting point.

“The Township Protection Plan is one piece of paper that every family in a high risk area should have up on their fridge."
