WODONGA Council and the Friends of Willow Park will be offering a broad range of community consultation activities during the months of August and September.
The project titled Willow Park Community Conversations will be launched by the Wodonga Mayor Cr Mark Byatt tonight at Arts Space Wodonga at 6pm.
The project will include a survey, play and say day, community forum, online chat room and the storyboard in the library, which will be updated throughout the project.
Director sustainable development Johan Louw said the council is particularly excited to be involved in this collaborative partnership with Friends of Willow Park.
“We are working closely together to find out what our community really values about Willow Park,” he said.
“We want to know how the community would like the park to be used and what it should look like in the future.”
The data gathered from these activities will then go to inform our Willow Park Masterplan.
This plan will set a 25-year vision for the park and establish priorities for the next five years.
Friends of Willow Park vice-president Alison Mitchell said the group was thrilled that the council agreed to embark on this innovative project and to work side-by-side to develop the masterplan.
“We have planned a broad range of activities for people to have their say and we expect the outcome to be a masterplan that reflects the community's values,” she said.
The biggest of the activities will be the Willow Park Play and Say Day on Saturday, August 22, when park users from around the city will gather to share their thoughts.
Community members will enjoy a range of free play experiences including painting, parachute fun, snakes and ladders, face painting and gumboot throwing.
Families and park users will be encouraged to join in the fun by bringing along their own favourite park past-times. The Willow Park Play and Say Day starts at 10am and finishes at 1pm.
