WODONGA Council preschool teacher Sandra Forrest has been nominated for the ASG Inspirational Teaching Awards by members of the school community at Belgrade Ave Preschool.
Around one per cent of all teachers are nominated for a NEiTA (National Excellence in Teaching Awards) award annually.
The purpose of these prestigious awards is to honour and recognise inspirational teachers, highlight the work, not only of individual teachers throughout Australia and New Zealand, but also the team contribution of all teachers in every school and centre.
Ms Forrest is now eligible for consideration for a National ASG Inspirational Teaching Award and grant.
Ms Forrest, who is the Belgrade Ave Preschool director, said she was “very surprised” by the nomination.
“For the parents of the children to take the initiative and nominate me is very exciting,” she said.
Ms Forrest has been with the council since 2005, commencing at the former Willow Park childcare centre.
She has also worked at Jamieson Preschool, Felltimber Occasional Care and the Stanley St Preschool.
Belgrade Ave Preschool committee secretary Vanessa Stelfox said Sandra loves her job and the children swarm to her.
“I was very impressed by her overall professionalism and dedication to her job as director of the preschool,” she said.
“A lot of the work she does is unnoticed and she is prepared to work out of hours.”
Ms Forrest will be informed by October/November this year if she is one of 60 recipients of the ASG State and Territory Awards for Inspirational Teaching. In early-2010, 10 teachers will be presented with National Teaching Awards, $5000 grants and sponsor prizes at a national celebratory function.
