Wodonga Council is encouraging residents to walk to work this Friday, October 2.
Walkers can enjoy a light breakfast on the lawn of the council offices in Hovell St from 7.45am, with free coffee for the first 20 walkers.
Walk to Work Day is an initiative of the Pedestrian Council of Australia and was developed to promote regular walking and physical activity.
The annual, national event encourages the community to become involved in the healthy and environmentally friendly activity.
The aims of Walk to Work Day are:
- To promote regular walking as a healthy activity including better physical, mental and social health
- Reduce the reliance on private cars
- Promote and improve the use of public transport
- To improve air quality by reducing unnecessary vehicle emissions
You can become a Walking Class Hero by walking all the way or part of the way to work.
The day is supported by Streets Ahead and the Wodonga Local Safety Committee, a partnership between Wodonga Council, Victoria Police, State Government and local agencies.
