Bee Alert

Posted: 28/10/2009

Wodonga Council has been busy organising the removal of bee swarms from council land.

There has been a noted increase in swarms this year due to a great year for the production of nectar and pollen allowing them to reproduce.

Trends indicate if there is an increase in bee swarms there is a decrease in wasp numbers.

Wodonga Council will organise the removal and relocation of any bee swarms on council land.

People are warned not to panic if they see a bee swarm as they are not inclined to sting if they are left alone.

It is important not to hose the swarm with water or throw anything at it, as this can make the swarm angry and they may sting.

On private property it is best to get a bee keeper to remove and relocate the swarm.

It is important not to exterminate nests as they are an important part of the ecosystem.
