Victoria Cross Parade to open next Friday

Posted: 27/06/2008

CONSTRUCTION of Victoria Cross Parade has been delayed and it is now expected to be opened to traffic next Friday (July 4, 2008).

The road was programmed to open next Monday (June 30, 2008).

Director city infrastructure Ray Henderson said the asphalting of the road pavement is currently in progress, however, a few areas of the road pavement have not dried sufficiently to complete the asphalting as a result of recent overcast weather.

“The asphalting and landscaping works are now in progress,” he said.

“Landscaping, lighting and some signage works will be completed after the road has been opened to traffic as this work is expected to take several months to complete.”

Mr Henderson said motorists are requested to drive carefully on the new road after it is opened as there will still be a considerable amount of construction works occurring in proximity of White Box Rise Estate.

“A 40kph road works speed limit will apply for the next couple of months until all works in the area are finalised,” he said.

“Reconstruction of the car park at the athletics track and access roads will proceed after Victoria Cross Parade has been opened to traffic.”

The work has involved the construction of three new roundabouts, the modification of the Beechworth Rd roundabout and the construction of 2.2km of a four-lane divided arterial road.

The final section of Victoria Cross Parade linking to the Bandiana Link Road will not be completed until the Bandiana railway line is removed and this is expected to be in approximately three years time.

Works are being carried out by contractor, Akron Roads.
