Change of venue for film screening

Posted: 25/06/2009

IF you are looking for something the whole family can do together this school holidays, then The Prize is an exciting and interactive show for both the young and the young-at-heart.

The screening of The Prize on Wednesday, July 1 at 1pm will now take place at Arts Space Wodonga and not the Wodonga Civic Centre.

Tickets are still available and cost $9 from Arts Space Wodonga on (02) 60 22 9600.

Combining black-and-white film with live music from the George Dreyfus Film Orchestra, The Prize introduces children to the wonders of classical music and is charming, nostalgic fun for adults.

Music by George Dreyfus and his son, Jonathan, is played live to Tim Burstall's half-hour children's classic from 1959, which tells the story of Sonny, a lucky boy who wins a goat at the fair but has to rescue it from two mischievous bullies in a perilous chase.

With every instrument playing a different character's theme, The Prize is a 'Peter and The Wolf' for the 21st century, as all ages delight in Dreyfus' sprightly melodies and Burstall's witty storytelling.

Set in the small Victorian town of Eltham, The Prize is full of beautiful descriptive sequences of Australian bush.

It is a children's classic of genuine charm and excitement and became one of Australia's first internationally acclaimed films at the 1960 Venice Film Festival.

Now George and Jonathan Dreyfus have turned their magic touch to the film with a musical score told in three parts, interwoven with narration, audience participation and musical demonstrations.
