WODONGA’S Jim Costelloe has been a driving force behind Wodonga Brass since 1948.

His 60 years of dedicated service has earned him this month’s Wodonga Council Eagle Award.

Mr Costelloe currently plays trombone in the band, and attends all rehearsals and plays in all engagements the band participates in.

He was secretary of the band from 1966 to 1979 and again from 1980 to 2003, a combined total of 31 years.

Wodonga Mayor Rodney Wangman said as secretary, Mr Costelloe was the guiding force of the band.

“As is the case in all voluntary organisations, Jim has spent countless hours working behind the scenes to assist in the growth of the band, making it an integral part of Wodonga,” he said.

“His commitment to the band led to Jim being elected a life member of Wodonga Brass.”

Cr Wangman said away from the band, Mr Costelloe is also a very active member of the Wodonga community.

“He regularly attends council meetings to keep abreast of what is happening in the city,” he said.

“Jim has also prepared information for the Wodonga Historical Society and delivered presentations to the society on the role of Wodonga Brass over the years.”
