Proposed park names

SUBJECT to the Guidelines for Geographic Names 2004, Wodonga Council is seeking public comment on the proposal to name 50 reserves within the municipality of Wodonga City Council.
Council believes one of the benefits of naming the parks is that the local community will begin to know specific areas by name and emergency service organisations will be able to maintain a gazetted feature name in their navigation systems should an emergency arise. Each park name will also hold and maintain some history of the people that have helped to shape Wodonga.
Each proposed name has either been locally known as such or is after a person who has had significant input or brought character and culture to the local community or the vicinity being named.
A list of the proposed names and their locations can be found below or from either the community noticeboards, community centres, the Wodonga Library or an information pack can be sent to you by calling our customer service operators on (02) 6022 9300 during business hours.
If you object to any of the proposed names, you should send a submission to Wodonga Council, PO Box 923, Wodonga, VIC 3689, prior to the close of business on June 5, 2009.
Submissions should be in writing and addressed to the GIS co-ordinator and marked ‘Proposed Park Name'. Alternatively, email info@wodonga.vic.gov.au to lodge your submission but please remember to include your name and address.
Any enquiries relating to the proposal may be directed to council's GIS co-ordinator on (02) 6022 9300.
