Wodonga Council is calling on interested residents to be part of a newly formed Rating Reference Group.
The group will review the council's current rating strategy and suggest ways to improve it.
Tasks include identifying and recommending principles that Wodonga Council should consider when setting general rates as well as providing input on the equitable sharing of rates between residential, commercial, industrial and rural stakeholders.
Director business services Trevor Ierino said the group would be asked to make suggestions regarding changes to the structure of current charges and their relationship to general rates.
“We will also be asking the group to identify any other special rates, charges or levies the group believes the council should consider,' he said.
Mr Ierino said the group would include two councillors, with one acting as chairperson.
He said council aimed to have representatives from key groups including residential home owners, commercial and industrial property owners, people owning vacant lots, land under development and rural land holders.
“Organisations such as Wodonga Chamber of Commerce, the Wodonga Ratepayer's Association, tourism groups, community-based service providers and environmental groups may also be represented,' he said.
Mr Ierino said applicants must live in, or be ratepayers of, the Wodonga municipality.
Wodonga Council will determine the make-up of the group based on the number of applications received, the experience and skills the applicants would bring to the group and the appropriate representation across the various ratepayer categories.
The new rating strategy would then be presented at least two weeks before the ordinary council meeting in February next year.
Residents wanting to be considered for the group should collect an application form included in the information kit. They should also read the rating reference group terms of reference, available by clicking here and going to the agenda item. The relevant information is on pages seven to 17.
