WODONGA'S Marie Jackson has taught yoga to thousands of students ranging in age from young people to the elderly over the past 40 years.
She runs her own yoga studio at her home, however, she has also spread her services to community centres, sporting clubs, schools and aged facilities.
Ms Jackson has encouraged and mentored 22 people in the Wodonga area to undertake yoga teacher training, spreading the positive impacts of yoga and meditation to the community beyond her own classes.
Outside of yoga, Ms Jackson has dedicated many years to volunteer work, often in a leadership capacity, and has been chosen as this month's Wodonga Council Eagle Award winner.
Ms Jackson was a Lifeline volunteer counsellor for 15 years from 1985 to 2000.
She was a founding member of the Border Cancer Support Group and contributed as a volunteer to this group for 18 years up until 2006.
Ms Jackson has always supported her husband in his endeavours with Rotary and the St Vincent de Paul Society.
Wodonga Mayor Cr Mark Byatt said Marie has had a positive impact on the Wodonga community since returning from Melbourne in 1983.
“Marie has a genuine concern for people and is always willing to help, whether through yoga or a more hands on approach,” he said.
“She has the rare ability to inspire people to try new things and believe in themselves.
“She is a leader in our community and we thank her for her contributions.”
