MEMBERS of a Wodonga Weight Watchers group have made it their mission to compete in The Border Mail Fed Hill Challenge, proudly supported by HealthFOCUS Physiotherapy.
It is the second year the event has been conducted, with more than 360 people taking part in the inaugural event last October. This year's event has been brought forward to Sunday, August 23 to embrace the cooler weather.
Weight Watchers member Renee Cullis said the group is so encouraging that she decided to take part in a fun run event for the first time.
“I started Weight Watchers to get more confidence,” the mother of three said.
“It all triggered from there. I have been training for three weeks and the others have been going for six weeks.”
The group's training session has consisted of walking the slopes of Federation Hill to prepare for the actual day.
People can walk, jog or run the 10km or 5km Fed Hill Challenge courses, with both starting and finishing at Willow Park. The 10km long course will feature the trails and slopes of Federation Hill and the 5km short course will meander along the base of Federation Hill avoiding the steeper slopes.
Wodonga Council's recreation and well being officer Merryn Deslandes said the event promises to be a great day for runners, walkers and spectators alike.
“It doesn't matter if you do not want to complete the course, just come along and cheer on your friends and family at the start and finish lines,” she said.
“Prior to the race and after its completion, there will be food and music available for participants and their friends and families to enjoy.”
Both races start at 10am from Willow Park, with race day entries closing at 9am.
Race day entries cost $20 for adult 10km race, $15 for junior (under 16) 10km race, $15 for adult 5km race and $10 for junior (under 16) 5km race. For more information, please contact Merryn Deslandes on (02) 6022 9300.
