Park users invited to have their say

Posted: 20/08/2009

WODONGA'S Willow Park will be buzzing with activity on Saturday, August 22 when park users from around the city are invited to attend the Willow Park Play and Say Day.

Community members are set to enjoy a range of free play experiences including painting, parachute fun, snakes and ladders, face painting and gumboot throwing.

Also, while there, they will be able to ‘have their say' on what they value about Willow Park and what they think it should look like into the future.

Families and park users are encouraged to join in the fun by bringing along their own favourite park past-times.

This might mean bringing along the dog to walk, bikes to ride on the pathways and frisbees to throw.

Food, tea and coffee will be available for those needing a break.

Friends of Willow Park and Wodonga Council are working together to engage the community in discussions around a shared vision for Willow Park.

This information will be used to develop a masterplan for the park that will set out a 25-year outline and establish priorities for the next five years.

The council's director sustainable development, Johan Louw said the day is a great opportunity for the council to partner with Friends of Willow Park to find out what the community really wants for the park.

“The Play and Say Day will help us to gather vital information about what people already love about Willow Park, how the community are currently using it and any changes they want for the future,” he said.

“We want to hear the community's ideas on what their park should look like.

“There will be a variety of creative discussion activities set-up on the day so that everyone can express their point of view.

“It is important that we all play our part in securing the park for future generations.”

The Willow Park Play and Say Day starts at 10am and finishes at 1pm.

For more information about the day, please call Wodonga Council on (02) 6022 9300 or visit the websites of council at www.wodonga.vic.gov.au or the Friends of Willow Park at www.friendsofwillowpark.org.au.
