BARANDUDA Community Centre, along with a team of 18 volunteers, has reached its goal of knitting 250 baby dresses to send to Africa, as part of the Knitting For African Aids Babies.
Knitters from as far away as Sydney and Bendigo have contributed to Baranduda Community Centre’s total, with the project running for a total of 12 weeks.
Manager aged services Debbie MacKinlay said she wanted to send out a heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in the Knitting For African Aids Babies project.
“We had many Baranduda locals involved in the project, volunteering not only their time to make the dresses, but also the materials,” she said.
Ms MacKinlay said the centre will be starting a new project to knit hats and scarves for the Angel Knitting Program, which is part of World Vision.
“The program has chosen the Caucasus region as the recipients of the hats and scarves,” she said.
“We would love to have many more people helping us to reach our goal of 50 by the end of winter.
“The pattern is available at the centre for anyone who is interested or they could pick up a booklet from any Guardian chemist in their area.”
