Interest in youth bus sought

WODONGA Council will seek expressions of interest for its mobile youth bus.
The bus was launched at REDfest in April this year, however, the engine suffered a major fault not long after, which resulted in an internal engine fire.
The bus was towed to Cummins Diesel and major issues were discovered.
The engine was unable to be repaired and buying a rare reconditioned engine from Belgium or reconditioning the existing engine were considered too costly.
Council's manager community planning and youth services Jaime Carroll said extensive consultations were held with the mobile youth bus reference group and sponsors that donated materials and/or time to the project.
"It was decided if the bus became a static facility, it would no longer be able to meet the original intention of the project,” she said.
“As a result, the council will now offer the bus to community groups and education providers through an expression of interest process.
“This process would include provisions to ensure the original intention to serve the young people of Wodonga is honoured.
“The idea was to establish a mobile outreach service for at risk young people in the Wodonga community.”
The Mobile Youth Bus project has been in progress for around two and a half years.
The original impetus for the project came from Andrew Utley from Central Hume Support Services and the Victorian Police youth resource officer Kevin Mack.
