Pam takes out Eagle Award

Posted: 17/08/2009

GIVING is in Pam Adams' nature and is the reason she has been chosen as this month's Wodonga Council Eagle Award winner.

The Eagle Award recognises people within the community who are making someone's life better or who are making a difference in the community.

Ms Adams was a member of the Neighbourhood Watch committee for more than 10 years and has held the role of president, area co-ordinator and zone representative.

Although she has resigned from the committee, she continues to attend their meetings and helps out where possible.

She is a member of the Wodonga Historical Society and was a historian for Wodonga West Primary School, with her work culminating in the 50th anniversary celebrations at the school in March.

Ms Adams is the co-ordinator of the local Telecross service, which is a Red Cross helpline that phones people every day who are at risk and living alone.

She also propagates plants to sell for fundraising organiaations and is co-ordinator of the St Stephen's community garden, which grows vegetables in season for inclusion in food parcels for between 150 and 200 people per month.

Ms Adam is a committee member of the Uniting Care Christmas Day lunch committee as well, with volunteers serving 200 meals last Christmas.

Wodonga Mayor Cr Mark Byatt said Pam's contribution to the Wodonga community and helping the less fortunate was inspiring.

“Pam is a good friend and neighbour to many people in the Wodonga community,” he said.

“She is always willing to give a hand to help anyone in need.”

If you know a Wodonga resident who is currently soaring high, nominate them by picking up a nomination form from council's Hovell St office or in the council's CityLife publication, online at www.wodonga.vic.gov.au or by phoning (02) 6022 9300.
