Battle of the Bands applications open

Posted: 17/06/2008

APPLICATIONS are now being accepted for the annual Battle of the Bands competition, to be held at Wodonga Civic Centre on Friday, August 15.

Manager recreation and youth services Mark Florence said the battle is highly anticipated each year.

“It is a terrific opportunity for young bands to have their music heard and also receive constructive advice as well,” he said.

“There were 10 entries last year from all over the North East region.

“Metal band Demonic Tempest took out the title last year with Hollow Point coming second and The Jimmys placed third.”

Entry into the competition is free, but is restricted to persons under the age of 21.

Performers must not have a recording, publishing or distribution deal.

Artists performing original material are encouraged to enter.

Any acts that entered and placed first place in a FReeZA Push Start heat in the previous year should not apply.

Application forms are available at www.wodonga.vic.gov.au or by phoning youth services on (02) 6022 9702.

Entries close on Friday, July 11 and must include a completed application form, demo CD or current MySpace address with recorded music.

The successful applicants will be notified on Friday, July 18.

They will then have time to prepare for the Battle of the Bands at Wodonga Civic Centre on Friday, August 15.
