Draft Wodonga Council Plan: have your say

Posted: 11/05/2009

THE draft Wodonga Council Plan 2009-2013 is now on display, with community-members urged to provide feedback on the council's key priorities.

Wodonga Mayor Cr Mark Byatt said the plan provided a clear way forward and had been formulated following extensive input from the community.

“The council engaged with more than 4000 Wodonga residents of all ages in the lead-up to compiling this plan to find out where they thought our priorities should be, what services they believed needed to be improved and where the council should be focusing its direction,” he said.

“This plan is reflective of the community's message.

“It wants to retain some of the look and feel which so many of its residents enjoy and appreciate, while improving services so Wodonga continues to be a great place.”

Cr Byatt said the plan, which is able to be reviewed annually by the council to ensure it is reflective of the ever-changing environment and demands, had been categorised into five pillars of well being.

These are: vibrant people, communities and neighbourhoods; a strong and resilient economy; a well-built, well-maintained and well protected community; an inclusive and culturally rich city and a democratic and engaged community.

“These pillars are reflective of the community feedback about what Wodonga should continue to strive towards,” he said.

The plan is now on display on the council website, at the council offices, the Wodonga Library or the Felltimber or Baranduda community centres. Hard or electronic versions are also available from the council office in Hovell St or can be posted out on request.

Community feedback will be received until 5pm on June 10 and once all submissions have been considered, the councillors will determine the key priorities and actions for the next 12 months.

The priority areas will then assist in determining the key areas for action within each business unit within the council, with quarterly reports to be provided on how these are being achieved.

As a part of the public submission phase for the council plan and budget, four public forums will be held during May.

The dates are:

  • Monday, May 18 from 6pm to 8pm - council chamber, Hovell St, Wodonga
  • Wednesday, May 20 from 6pm to 8pm - Bonegilla Hall, 3394 Murray Valley Highway, Bonegilla
  • Monday, May 25 from 6pm to 8pm - Felltimber Community Centre, Melrose Drive, Wodonga
  • Tuesday, May 26 from 6pm to 8pm - Baranduda Community Centre, Sage Crt, Baranduda

Everyone is welcome to attend.
