Being a volunteer

Voluntary work is very important in the Wodonga community. Hundreds of Wodonga volunteers regularly give their time and energy to assist others in the community. The City of Wodonga recognises this generosity and supports the valuable work of volunteers, community organisations and groups within the municipality.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer in Wodonga, please find below a list of the various key service facilities where we would always welcome additional assistance.

Streets Ahead/Neighbourhood Action volunteers
  • As part of the Streets Ahead Project at City of Wodonga Council we have an exciting opportunity to volunteer on the Neighbourhood Action Team. The Neighbourhood Action Team will discuss and implement ideas to make Wodonga more walking and cycling friendly for children. This involves not just infrastructure possibilities but social programs that will help foster an environment that encourages active transport such as walking, cycling, scooting or blading. The Neighbourhood Action Team is informal with the level of involvement being up to the individual. If you want more information or you would like to join in, please phone the Streets Ahead Project Officer at Wodonga Council on (02) 6022 9338.
Meals on Wheels
  • Volunteering for Meals on Wheels enables you to express your involvement in the community without taking huge chunks of your time. If you have an hour and a half to fill in once a month, once a fortnight, once a week, or just now and then, any day of the week including weekends, consider joining our team of community-minded people who enjoy meeting people, getting out and about and enabling frail and aged people to remain living in their own homes as long as possible. Meals are collected from the Wodonga Regional Health Service kitchen at 11.15 am and the round is usually completed by 12.45pm. Drive with a friend or take some time out by yourself! Phone the Meals on Wheels co-ordinator on (02) 6022 9300 now!
Planned Activity Group
  • Volunteers at planned activity group (PAG) assist in the operation of the program which includes assisting staff with cooking, activites and outings. For more information, phone (02) 6022 9300.
Youth Services
  • Volunteering with Wodonga Youth Services provides each young person who comes in with the opportunity to be involved in some of the most unusual, exciting and challenging events that happen in our city. People aged 12-24 have the chance to help run almost anything from Film Festivals to Skate Comps, FReeZA Events to Holiday programs, and making some great friends along the way!

All it takes to make Wodonga a fantastic place for young people to hang out is your participation for about an hour a week. And at the end of it all you come away with the satisfaction that you've helped plan and run an event that was fun for not only yourself, but for all young people living in the area!

If you, or someone you know, wants to volunteer with Wodonga Youth Services and help make Wodonga a cooler place to live then phone us on (02) 6022 9700.
Friendly visiting service
  • The aim of the friendly visiting service is for volunteers to help enhance the quality of life for people who live in their own homes and may have limited family and social contact.

As a friendly visitor volunteer you will be asked to set aside 1 to 2 hours a week to visit a frail person in the their own home. For more information, phone The Willows on (02) 6022 9620.
Arts Space Wodonga
  • Are you interested in the arts, volunteering within your community or meeting new people? Then Friends of Arts Space Wodonga may be for you.

Friends are sought to assist in the staffing and operation of Arts Space Wodonga on a weekly or fortnightly basis. No prior experience is necessary, however good communication skills and the ability to work unsupervised are essential.  If interested, please contact (02) 6022 9600.
