Volunteering for young people

Volunteering for young people

Considering becoming a volunteer? Well, come and try volunteering at Wodonga Youth Services at our many exciting and diverse programs we run!

Youth Services provide many programs for young people.

You can volunteer and help out at any of our programs and events that are run for the young people.

Wodonga Council youth services aims to provide opportunities for young people in a volunteering capacity, not only at council but in the community.

We endeavour to help young people get volunteer positions that best suit their needs and interest. Not only can you volunteer at our service but also in the community at other youth-specific organisations and we can refer you to those that would best suit your needs.

Think about the amount of time you are able to dedicate to volunteering, given other demands on your time, such as school or uni and other extracurricular activities.

Volunteering gives young people the opportunity to have their say in the direction of youth services in their community and to learn and develop skills in leadership, communication and team work.

To be a volunteer at Wodonga youth services, you can contact one of our staff members to be involved in any of the programs below.

Volunteering allows you to gain many skills and opportunities.

Some fantastic reasons to volunteer:

  • Meet new people
  • Utilise existing talents
  • New career opportunities
  • Self-esteem and confidence
  • Being active and a part of your community

We are always interested in talking to young people who would like to volunteer.

Wodonga Council holds offers the following volunteering opportunities in-house:

  • Office: this would give you more of the administration side of the youth services role within council and the community planning side of youth sector.
  • FReeZA Committee: Consists of 10 to 15 young people aged 15 to 24. This committee is instrumental in the development, planning and running of a variety of music and cultural events.
  • Feedback Committee: This is the organising and planning committee for each Feedback event held throughout the year.  Feedback provides local performers with an open space to fine-tune their musical skills and display their expertise in an informal and relaxed atmosphere.
  • One-off events: you can volunteer to help out at any of our one-off programs and/or events that we may have on throughout the year.

If you would like more information on the process of becoming volunteer, phone Wodonga youth services for a volunteer information pack.

We also welcome questions or comments from parents or the community.
