Mobile youth bus

Mobile youth bus

The Mobile Youth Bus was officially launched on March 20, 2009, and was first available for the public to use and view at REDfest 2009 on Sunday, March 29.

The bus services all areas of the Wodonga local government area on a regular basis. The facilities on board the bus include Playstation consoles, internet access, kitchen facilities, meeting area with data projector and screen, barbecue, outdoor movie screen and music performance and tuition facilities.

These facilities allow the council to provide low or no cost social and recreational activities to the young people of Wodonga as well as providing a central point for connection to local youth workers, police and information on a range of social, health, legal and financial issues. There is also the opportunity for young people to gain information and referral to a range of local community service providers.

The Mobile Youth Bus project had major support from the following organisations:

  • Upper Hume Community Health Service,
  • Central Hume Support Services,
  • School-focused youth services,
  • Wodonga district schools,
  • Wodonga TAFE
  • Victorian Police Force – Wodonga,
  • North East Local Learning and Employment Network,
  • Dahlsens,
  • Cummins Diesel,
  • Mylon Motorway,
  • Jacob Body and Paint,
  • Rice Graphic Images,
  • State Government through its Community Support Fund and the ‘Vic Rocks' music funding grants.
