Becoming an Australian citizen

Initial enquiries to take out Australian citizenship are to be made to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) - refer contact details and links below.

When an application is approved, the department advises the council. The council then arranges for the applicant to attend a formal ceremony. Formal ceremonies are usually held on the third Tuesday of each month. If you have an enquiry relating to the formal ceremonies conducted by the council please phone (02) 6022 9202.
