Fire and native vegetation - planning permits

WODONGA Council would like to remind its residents that a planning permit is often required to remove, destroy or lop native vegetation in and around your property.

Planning permits are generally required under Clause 52.17 of your local planning scheme, however, there are a number of exemptions from this permit requirement which planning staff would be happy to assist you with.

Some exemptions for the removal of native vegetation include fire protection, emergency works, building maintenance and bushfire recovery.

There are fact sheets on each of these exemptions below.

Please note that the exemptions relate to planning permits for native vegetation removal only.

You may require other approvals to carry out works.

For example, you may require a ‘permit to burn' from the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) or the Country Fire Authority (CFA) to conduct fuel reduction burning.

If in doubt, please check with the council.
